Adaptable Playground Design | University of Twente
The aim of this project is to build technical modelling knowledge and skills in SolidWorks, using the design of a playground as a practical case study. The playground is adaptable and modular, meaning that these playhouses can easily be arranged, assembled and configured in different ways, depending on the available space, budget and target age of the users.

Design Brief
The project focuses on the modelling of complex, large-scale assemblies, prioritizing modular and adaptable design approaches. This ensures that the assemblies can be rapidly reconfigured as needed. The intent is to integrate a diverse array of modelling methods and techniques, such as the manipulation of curves, surfaces, and solids, in line with advanced CAD/CAM system capabilities. The scope of work includes the development of renderings, animations, and simulations (strength and stiffness) of the model.

Depending on the available space, a small or large version of the playground can be chosen. In the small configuration, one of the playhouses can be left out.

The total height of the playground and the length of the central climbing tunnels can be altered.

Three types of playground equipment can be integrated in the middle of the playground beneath the two climbing tunnels. The selectable configurations are a seesaw, a running drum or a large bucket. The latter will be ideal if the playground is located near a sand and water play area.
